Social Connections V – StarWars all over again?

If you are reading this you are social and somehow are involved with the whole IBM software stack relationship social thingamajig or another …. So, unless you live under a rock you have heard of the – very successful – SOCIAL CONNECTIONS shindig that happens on a regular basis and is instigated (among several other, very hardworking individuals) Stuart McIntyre.

In spite of being the model of British reserve and gentleman-ship, Stuart is well know and renowned for his strength in the “the Social Stuff”, or as we like to say – the FORCE is strong in him . . .

Social Connections V is coming up this June and somehow I managed to weasel my way into it and am speaking this year. Thank God Stuart chose the neutral country of Switzerland to host it, that way my antics are unlikely to break up the European Union (it is not a member), set off a minor border conflict (nobody messes with the Swiss) or cause a rise in sea levels (no ocean, but they do have part of the Alps).

Here is a link that the very kindhearted and capable Femke Goedhart tweeted earlier today with a sneak peek of what is in store. Personally, I think most people will come of the Swiss chocolate, the alphorn blues band that will be playing in the lobby and lederhosen that Stuart is planning to wear in celebration of his newly discovered Swiss ancestor who is distantly related to Wilhelm Tell. It is a fascinating story that he is sure to recant to you if you just prod his modesty enough – he is quite shy about his fame as we all know. I also surmise that Tim Clark might have an interesting tidbit or two to share and with Gab “No Problem” Davis around there will be enough interesting content to cover for the fact that my session will be dealing with the finer points of Swiss Cheese Fondue . . .

So, if you think you are interested …. and have the time to watch all the amazed/shocked Swiss who will be gather around the hotel to stare at us in wonder – you should attend … even if it is only to hear hear Gab say “Not a Problem!” in that droll accent of her’s ….

PS: if you are wondering why I mentioned StarWars in the title – no reason other than the big Roman Numeral “V” in the title and that I turn green and shriveled like Yoda when I drink green beer on St. Paddy’s day . . . Switzerland will never be the same after this. I pity the Swiss, really . .

My LUG Wish List

Every website now supports some kind of wish list: Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Buy.com … you name it, they have a list in their databases that captured all those things I would like to buy but either have no money for or that my wife would take exception to … such as a new set of golf clubs, a full edition of the Encyclopedia Brittanica, that blue Porsche I like (which list was that on again??)
… well you get it.

Now, just having been at yesterday’s DCLug I was wondering if I shouldn’t create a LUG Wish List for myself. And since we are in the era of social media and exchanging information – I am going to post it for all you to read. Here my top LUG wishes:

Speak at Hawaiian LUG

If that single Hawaii blog reader I have sends me a post card with an invite – I am there, brother!

Present at Rio de Janeiro LUG

I have not been to Rio in years, but I know I have so much to offer. Also, I think Brazilian coffee is among the best in the world and everybody knows daddy likes his coffee – it also helps me speak even faster than normal and I could present more content in the same amount of time. A clear win-win situation for all involved.

South African LUG: Co-present on how Lotus Products can ensure world peace with Nelson Mandela
Me and Nelson, we could seriously tear it up there. No more needs to be said.

Australia LUG Extravaganza

Present at (a? the?) Australia LUG that is scheduled to coincide with a Rugby Game between Australia and New Zealand. Incorporate Rugby sports and philosophy into the presentation of effective end user administration. End presentation with several pints of Fosters and maybe a Koala or two dancing on the screen. Clearly, I am the first to come up with that idea and it should be explored further.

Czeck LUG Experience

Be invited to present at the Czeck LUG that will be held at Czesky Budejovice. . My topic would probably be how to improve Lotus Connections deployments with the help of Budvar - a sure winner in my mind.  Anything  and everything works better when consuming some of the world’s best beer and it helps take the pain away from dealing with CA’s SiteMinder product. SSO at it’s worst . . . . .

And last but no least -

Be the Featured presenter at the All-France LUG in Moissac

This one is easy – my paternal grandmother was from Moissac and supposedly there is a handbag of hers still somewhere there int he municipal lost-and-found center that I could lick up. Also, it is some of the most beautiful country in France and has good food and nice people (after all, Grandma was from there) – we could then make part two of the LUG happen at Toulouse … just an idea.

Well, here you have it – my top LUG wishes. Now all we need is the power of social media and Santa Claus to make these wishes come true.

DCLug – Great Location, Great Content, Great Participant, GreatMeet!

Today was the much awaited DCLug – a high-tech affair organized using LinkedIn and Meetup.com at the IBM Briefing Center on K Street in DC. Thanks for Jack Dausman and Kevin Pettitt (and all the others involved) who organized the affair.

It was the first of a regular string of meets that will be held regularly from here on forward – we had a nice sized crowd who came together to listen to some good content about Weilgut’s MindPlan software, the eProductivity software suite, tungle.me and a short presentation about new Lotus Notes Domino 8.5.2 features.

The next meet is not fixed yet, but there has been some talks about trying to arrange another DCLug meet around the time Erick Mack of eProductivity fame is in town sometime in November … now that would be sweet! Just join the LinkedIn group and our Meetup.com group – even if you are not in the immediate DC area – maybe you just want to come in, take part and then have some more fun at one of DC’s many cultural offerings.

Hope to see you there next time. Below are some pictures I took of Jack Dausman presenting.

DCLug Meeting – 09/23/2010

I have been working for a client full time in DC for a few months now and some members of the DC Lug are at the same place – so after some beating and whipping by them I joined the DC Lotus User Group a month ago or do (it still hurts …)

Now, for the first time in a while (should I take credit??) there will be a DCLug meeting on Sept. 23 3-5. The meeting details are here.

There is also a DC Lotus Professionals group on LinkedIn that I think is a great resource to join as well. If you have a LinkedIn profile (I hope you do) and are anywhere in the greater Washington D.C. area, you should join that group.  Here is a link to join that group.
